Morpurgo’s Meandering Morning

This morning, Morpurgo class ventured to the Yealm estuary. We passed numerous sheep, fields and public footpaths; enjoying the view as we meandered. We stopped for refreshments at Mrs Howells’ house, shortly before enjoying Mrs Harris’ talk on the history of the Brick Works. Continuing on our way, we perused the edge of the estuary, climbing trees, seeking crabs and getting stuck in the mud. What an exciting morning we had!

The Romans Invade Again!

In celebration assembly this week, Year 5 showed the rest of the school a clip of the role-play they have been working on throughout the week (it gives us insight into how the Romans invaded Britain and encourages the audience to think about how the Celts may have felt at that time). The rest of the school thoroughly enjoyed it and here it is for you to see at home…

The Romans Invade!

This week, Year 5 pupils have continued to focus on our topic of ‘The Great, the Bold and the Brave’ and have been researching and discussing how the Romans were so successful on the battlefield… Last term, as a class, we researched, designed and created our own Roman shields – which Year 5 used this week to march with. In addition to this, the Year fives practised some Latin commands used by the Roman centurions, such as ‘Silentium’ as well as some of the formations used by the Romans in battle, such as the ‘tortoise’ formation.

Chinese New Year

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Morpurgo Class created and choreographed a range of martial arts-themed dances in groups to Chinese music (See above). In addition to this, the class painted and produced a selection of animal and character masks to use when performing their play retelling the original story of the Chinese New Year.

Virtual Reality

Morpurgo Class went to St Michael’s C of E Primary School to participate in a Google Expeditions session. Here, all members of the class were able to experience 3D goggles as we took a trip around the world! We visited places such as: the Pyramids of Giza, Machu Picchu, the Great Barrier Reef, the Great Wall of China and Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro. What a fantastic experience!!
